Mark R. McGinly Memorial Scholarship

Instructions for Applying

Dear High School Principals, Guidance Directors, and Directors of Athletics & Activities:

On September 11, 2001 every American came face to face with how devastating an act of terror can be. For the McGinly family, that terrorist act was not only devastating, it was very personal. On that terrible Tuesday, Mark Ryan McGinly was working on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center One. Like so many other young professionals, he lost his life that fateful day.

Since September 11, 2001 Mark’s family and friends have worked very hard to establish the significance of his short life and untimely death. To that end, the Mark McGinly Memorial Scholarship has been established. Each year at graduation, the scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors who best represent Mark’s love for sports and for life.

This year the Mark McGinly Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $10,000 payable directly to the college or university the recipient will attend. Additional awards may be made at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

Please review the information available about Mark and the scholarship on the web page www.mcginlyscholarship.org. After you have carefully considered this information and your pool of student athletes, please give the enclosed application to the student or students of your choice. All Northern Virginia High School varsity athletes are eligible for the scholarship. There is no financial need based requirement. Please be aware that past scholarship winners have been successful because they read about Mark McGinly on the scholarship web page and understood the purpose of the scholarship.

Applications must be post marked by May 1, 2010 in order for the scholarship selection committee to review them prior to the senior awards ceremonies and graduation 2010.
