Scholarship Eligibility |
Mark Ryan McGinly Scholarship $10,000 The Mark McGinly Memorial Scholarship is awarded to individuals selected by the Mark McGinly Memorial Scholarship Selection Committee. It does not require teacher recommendation nor principal approval. The scholarship committee is relying on athletic directors or guidance counselors to make students aware of the Mark R. McGinly scholarship opportunity. The selection committee prefers each high school to select one student, all applications are given equeal consideration. The most successful applicants have been those chosen by local high school selection scholarship committees who meet the recommendations of Mark R. McGinly scholarship selection process. High school athletic directors/guidance counselors should review the information available about Mark and the scholarship on this web site. After careful consideration of this information and their pool of student athletes, the athletic directors/guidance counselors should give the application to the student(s) of their choice who best exemplifies the qualities of Mark. All Northern Virginia high school varsity athletes are eligible for the scholarship. There is no financial need-based requirement. Mark Ryan McGinly Award for Achievement in the Arts ($2,500) and the Mark Ryan McGinly Award for Military Service ($2,500) These awards are also presented yearly. The Achievement in the Arts Award is for music, art, film and drama students who have notable high school achievement and college plans for a career in one of those areas. The Commitment to Military Service Award is for students who are entering a service academy. Applications are due by May 1, 2010 in order for the scholarship committee to review them and make a selection prior to graduation 2010. |
